The Gospel Takes Birth: Everybody Ought to Know Who Jesus Is- Though Born In A Manger

Scripture Passage: Lk 2:8-20
BACKGROUND (Lk 2:1-9)
•A Roman census required for Mary and Joseph to take a long and difficult journey
•Luke informs Theophilus of Joseph being from the Davidic line (Micah 5:2)
•The narrative’s context of time indicates Jesus’ birth happened in a way that would be identical to migrants…a life to be born without a proper settlement
THE PARANORMAL PHENOMENON
•The Angelic realm plays a significant role in ushering in the birth of Christ
•It points to who is the initiator of this action- God the Father
•By now Zechariah who is a Somebody, Joseph who is Nobody and the Shepherds who are the Everybody have received ‘Good News’.
THINGS HAVE KINDA GOTTEN BUSY IN HEAVEN!
•This is no ordinary birth, it put the angels at task…in fact even the celestial realm (Joy is the serious business of heaven. C.S. Lewis)
•This birth however questionable could not be a secret
•The proclamation pattern…news, fear, do not fear, good news and praise
WHY THE SHEPHERDS OF ALL PEOPLE?
•In God’s agenda, his favour rests on whom he chooses…no one qualifies for it but for His Grace.
•The Gospel (the person of Christ) would be available to Everyone
•They in-turn would proclaim the “Good News of Great Joy”...insignificant, small, chosen, impacted and now sent...compare it with the Scribes and Teachers of the Law in Matt 2
