A GOSPEL OUTLOOK AT THE 2 T’s: TRIALS AND TEMPTATIONS (PART-1)

Scripture Passage: James 1:1-8,12
(For Week#1's summary please look at the previous weeks blog)
A GOSPEL REFINED TONGUE:PURGED FOR PURE SPEECH- WEEK#2
•A call for Godly order
•“Speech uttered is Speech Judged”
•Our speech betrays us, but that does keep us from searching for God’s purging of our tongue
•Let us not pay mere “Lip Service” to God, for words do qualify as deeds and leads to deeds.

DO NOT BE ALARMED BY TRIALS
•(Gk) peirasmos: a putting to proof (by experiment (of good), experience (of evil), solicitation, discipline or provocation); by implication, adversity; the same word is used for Trials and Temptations, the context determines what is being referred to
•The Messianic Jews had faced persecution from within Jerusalem and also in places where they immigrated
•James encourages them at the opening to consider the place for the trials (testing) they are facing.

THE PURPOSE AND OUTLOOK TOWARDS TRIALS
•James uses an adjective to the noun that spells joy…pure
•‘Outlook’ determines ‘Outcome’
•The description is that the trials are varied
•They are designed to make you mature not to destroy you
•We are asked to be patient through it (1 Pe 1:6-7; Rom 5:3-4; Job 23:10)

THE TASK OF ASKING IN THE MIDST OF THE TRIAL
•The ability to face a trials lies in understanding the purpose of the trial
•Human wisdom will fail to respond adequately because its outlook is not determined by the Gospel
•In asking God do not doubt…but what do we doubt? What can we doubt? How do we doubt?...consider Ahaz in Isaiah 7
•An asking that is doubting has already received an answer!
•Ask believing…Mt 21:21-22; Mk 11:24
